Why is Asian American heritage month and other cultural tributes overshadowed during the year by the media?

I know the media makes a big fuss about February being Black History Month as it gets flashed on the screen at the start of every year which is nice and informative, but there is also Asian American Heritage month in May (transcontinental railroad) and Women's History month right now (in March) but they never get plastered on the screen as much. They come and go without all the hoopla and attention that Black History Month gets in February which is a little disappointing but I guess it depends more on the media hype and the attention than on the quality of what is recognized (kind of like in music industry whoever gets the most money is more based on popularity and resources than it is on the skill or talent alone which is why some singers never get their big break and others do).



I guess part of it is that blacks are a larger population and are have more parts in American society. Asians are smaller. Also, Asians aver very diverse compared to most blacks that came here as slaves and adapted to American society. Asians make up of different nationalities and culture. Quiet franky, many asians don't like each other.




Simple answer.....no power. Asians aren't overly concerned with stuff like that first of all and secondly Asians are underrepresented in this country in terms of having a voice and having power.





It also has to do with this country's sordid past in slavery and everything. America has to keep "making up" and atoning for her past sins by exemplifying things like Black History Month.




I don't necessarily think it has been overshadowed this year. Possibly because we had our first African American president, a lot of people think that that breaks down a lot of cultural barriers. But i do think that some minorities such as Hispanics and Asians have been overlooked. For example, the fact that we have Hispanic Heritage Month or Women's history month might be a shock to some people.

i only see BET making a fuss over black history month, and i hate them





no history month is really honored: hispanic culture, womens, asian, or black




Why do you care, your not Asian..




White people won't give them their credit.




I don't really care the history books should teach it as it really was instead of this eurocentric b.s..




What's Asian History Month?




I guess b/c you won't see as many Asians b1 ching that the media isn't mentioning their month. If you think about it who were the main rioters during the Civil Rights Movement..Blacks....who has their own channel....blacks....who's more likely to go buck wild if their month isn't mentioned....blacks!! You see there are fewer Asians..which means less will riot,etc.

Because no asian culture is the same


I dont think I can ever imagine a Japanese celebrating indian,chinese, or filipino culture *Asian History Month* is way to friggin broad, I dont think they could care for it, they dont even wanna be Compared.


Because un-like the blacks, alot of asians do Have a specific Culture to fall-back on and a strong Identity.




you should know. but my friend this is a racist white supremacstt world. we are insulted with one month of history when we have soo much history that we began time, no one talks about these things, we have artifacts on the moon, we have man made structures on the moon hundreds of thousands of years old and no one talks about it, its racists as hell NASA did not even bother to publicize the info. they didnt publicize it because blacks, as the bones and skulls belonged to black people. did it obviously they want to hide and erase our history. read a book called dead man's secrets. black history month is some bull, and is a real insult to black people in everyway. white people actually complain about it, when they have white history year annually so they needa shut the **** up. you see what kind of world we live in?
